『メーデー』って何？
日本で5月と言えば、ゴールデンウィーク！！ 旅行の計画を立てている方も多いようですね♪
一方海外では、この時期話題になるのが「メーデー」という祝日。 聞いたことはあるけど、詳しい内容は意外と知らない、という方も多いのではないでしょうか？ メーデーは英語表記にすると「May Day」。 もともと欧州では、夏の訪れを祝う為の祝日でしたが、 1886年の5月1日、アメリカで長時間労働に対して、8時間労働制を訴える大規模なデモが行われました。 このことが由来となり、以降メーデーは「労働者が権利を主張する日」として 労働者の為の祭典となったそうです。 もちろん国内でも、メーデーに関するイベントを実施しているところもありますが、 日本では大型連休に加え、11月に「勤労感謝の日」が存在することから 祝日になる事はなさそうです…((+_+)) ちなみに海外の映画などで、緊急事態によく叫ばれている「メーデー！！」というセリフ、 表記は『May Day』なのですが、これは無線で遭難信号を発信する時に使われる 緊急用のフレーズなのだとか。 フランス語の「Ｖenez Ｍ’aider（助けに来て）」の発音に由来するそうです。 祭日とは繋がりがないそうなので、ご参考までに☆ 労働者の為の祭典、日本でも「働く人たちを労う日」として、祝ってみてはいかがでしょうか？

この春から語学を始める方がますます増えてきました！ 講師も毎日がんばって教材を作っています！！
教材やレッスン作りに欠かせない「文房具」、今回は英語での表現を一部ご紹介します☆彡・修正テープ 『White-out ／ Correction tape』
なんと日本が開発したという修正テープ！ ！ 呼び方は国や地域によって変わりますが、 アメリカなどでは「white-out」と呼ぶのがメジャーだそうです。 ただ「white-out」は修正液のことも指しているので 「white-out tape」と伝えてあげましょう！・万年筆『Fountain pen』
使うには少しハードルが高い…と思われがちな万年筆ですが、 ヨーロッパではとても馴染みのある筆記具。 国や地域によりますが、学校では低学年から万年筆を使い、 高学年以降はボールペンを使うのが一般的なんだとか。 水性インクの為、油性ボールペンよりも筆圧がかからないので、 長時間の書き物、勉強にも向いているかもしれません！！ ペン先の太さは様々ですが、「 Fine（細字）」「Medium（中字）」「Broad（太字）」がメイン。 日本には漢字があるので、使ってみたい方は「Extra Fine（極細字）」を探すのがお勧めです！・ホッチキス『Stapler』
英語で”stapler”、というのはご存じの方も多いかもしれません。 ですが日本ではなぜ「ホッチキス」なのでしょうか？？ 実は明治時代、アメリカからホッチキスを初めて輸入した際 「E.H. ホッチキス社（E.H. Hotchkiss）」の商品だったから、というのが由来だとか。 品名そのものに社名がつけられていたため、そのままの呼び名として定着したそうです。 他にもよく使う文具があれば、ぜひ英語表現も調べてみてくださいね！

Unusual museums
Museum of Broken Relationships:
Correct, this museum in Zagreb, Croatia, is dedicated to failed romantic relationships. It displays personal objects abandoned (left) by former lovers, accompanied by brief descriptions.
Getting rid of items people associate with a particular partner might help them move forward.
In 2011, it received the Kenneth Hudson Award for Europe’s most innovative museum.
It welcomed more than 100,000 visitors in 2017!
Museum of Bad Art:
We all have different tastes, so who has the right to tell us what good or bad art is?
Still, a private museum in Boston, Massachusetts, is currently dedicated to “bad art”.
The Museum of Bad Art’s (MOBA) aim is “to celebrate the labor of artists whose work would be displayed in no other forum”. Its permanent collection includes over 700 pieces of “art too bad to be ignored”, with about 30 of them on public display.
Cockroach Hall of Fame Museum:
Clearly not the most appetizing, but maybe the most creative!
This museum was created by an exterminator (not Terminator 😁) named Michael Bohdan. He came forward with the innovative and crazy idea of making dead cockroaches more beautiful. During the 1980s, he opened a contest to discover the biggest cockroach. Then, he organized a fashion contest for the small bugs, so visit this museum to observe cockroaches in unique dresses.

Private pool = Rich?
Have you ever dreamt of a house with a private pool? In Japan, it’s almost impossible to obtain a private pool. Only very few people will have the money and willingness to spend so much in the land of the rising sun (Japan). Around the world, owning a private pool is a luxury mostly reserved for wealthy households. However, in some countries, you don’t need to be a millionaire to enjoy your own pool. Here are some facts: In Australia, one in seven Australians live in a house with a private pool.That’s about 3.1 million people. Spain, not an extremely rich country, has 1.3 million swimming pools. In France, there are 3.2 private swimming pools! With a total population that’s approximately 65 million people, that’s not bad for a country where everybody is complaining all day long! 😅 In The United States, there are over 10 million private pools. Accounting for population, Arizona, Florida, and New Mexico have the most swimming pools per capita (per person).
So how much would it cost to own a house with a real swimming pool (not an inflatable one on your balcony)?
