＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝日本のバレンタインの発祥は？
今年もバレンタインの季節がやってきました！！
美味しいチョコレートがたくさんお店に並ぶので、自分用に選ぶのも楽しいですよね。
さて日本では女性から男性にチョコを贈りますが、海外では男性から女性へ花束などのプレゼントを送るのが主流です。
世界では「恋人の日」とも言われ、日本のみ独自の文化となっています。
なぜ日本では、女性からチョコレートを贈るようになったのでしょうか？
諸説ありますが、このイベントを仕掛けたのは製菓会社だと言われています。
大手メーカーが「バレンタインデーに好きな男性へチョコレートを贈ろう！」という宣伝と共に、大々的にチョコレートを売り出したのが始まりだとか。
男性に贈る習慣を広めたのは、当時百貨店などで消費の多かった女性客をターゲットにしたためだそうですよ！
70年代頃から定着し、今ではチョコレート商戦も交えた一大イベントになりましたが、やはり海外からは不思議に感じられるそうです。
「義理チョコって貰って嬉しいの？」「ホワイトデーまで待てない！」などの意見もちらほら（笑）
もちろん「バラよりもお菓子の方が嬉しい」という声も多いそうなので、日本のバレンタイン文化の魅力を、ぜひ海外の方にも伝えてあげてくださいね！
映画の感想を英語で言ってみよう！
映画を観て英語学習をしている！という方、多いのではないでしょうか？
また「こんな映画を観た！」とレッスンで話すと盛り上がりますよね。
ただ英語で伝えようとすると、毎回「It was interesting.」「So so.」などの感想で終わってしまっていませんか？
今回は様々な映画トークに使えるフレーズを、評価別でご紹介します。
とても良い映画だった時
This movie was so good, you must see it!
「すごく良い映画だったから、絶対観るべき！」
It was the best horror movie I’ve ever seen!
「今まで観たホラー映画で、一番面白かったよ！」
The cinematography was awesome, and it drew me right into the movie.
「映像がすごくって、映画の中に引き込まれちゃった。」
The story was so good, the movie didn’t feel 3 hours long at all.
「ストーリーが秀逸で、3時間の長さを感じなかったよ。」
The catchphrase in Japan, “The whole world cried.” was not a lie.
「日本のキャッチコピー「全世界が泣いた」っていうのは嘘じゃなかったんだ。」
まあまあな映画だった時
This movie wasn’t that bad.
「この映画、そんなに悪くはなかったよ。」
The plot was so well thought out, but the ending twist was a bit predictable.
「プロットはよく練られていたけど、最後のどんでん返しは少しありきたりだったかな。」
It was interesting, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
「面白かったけど、私には少し合わなかったみたい。」
The movie had some exciting moments, but I felt a bit slow in the middle.
「ハラハラするシーンもあったけど、中盤で中だるみがあったんだよね。」
I think this movie would have been more entertaining if Jason Statham had played the lead role.
「ステイサムが主演だったら、もっと面白くなっていたと思うんだ。」
イマイチな映画だった時
It was so confusing that I couldn’t follow it. I want my time and money back.
「難解すぎて意味分かんなかった。時間とお金返して欲しい。」
It was so boring, I walked out of the theater in the middle of the movie.
「つまらなすぎて、途中で映画館から出ちゃったよ。」
The actors’ performances were so flat and lifeless that I couldn’t focus on the story.
「役者の感情表現が下手で、話に集中できなかったな。」
I don’t understand why they thought this movie was worth releasing.
「何故この映画を世に出そうと思ったのかが分からない。」
I think this movie will be appreciated in about 2000 years.
「この映画、2000年後くらいには評価されると思う。」

今月のReading Challenge1 “Kobe Beer Jamboree 2024”
Dear beer lovers,
If you are not studying at Applek all day long, we recommend that you spend some time at the Kobe Beer Jamboree!
The Kobe Beer Jamboree is a new beer festival. It is going to bring brewers and bars from all over Japan together. You will definitely find a large range of craft beers, as well as tasty food that goes well with beer.
Since this is a new festival, it is probably going to present beers that you haven’t tried before, so don’t miss it!
But of course make sure to drink in moderation.
Where is it going to be held?
At the Kobe Sambo Hall.
The nearest station from the Kobe Sambo Hall is Boeki Center Station on the Port Liner.
When?
On Saturday, February 24th from 11:00 to 20:00.
And on Sunday, February 25th from 10:30 to 19:00.

今月のReading Challenge2 “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”
Have you ever heard of Odysseus?
In Greek and Roman mythology, Odysseus is the hero of an epic poem called “The Odyssey”.
This masterpiece of literature relates the tale of Odysseus sailing the seas for ten years.
Based on “The Odyssey”, the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, written and directed by brothers Joel and Ethan Coen in 2000, explores ideas such as fate, retribution, and the forces of civilization versus savagery.
The film follows three escaped prisoners searching for a better life while a sheriff relentlessly pursues them.
This clever and entertaining adventure/comedy movie is set in rural Mississippi during the 1930s, with great music (album of the year at the 2002 Grammy Awards).
While watching this movie, pay attention to the way George Clooney and his colleagues use accents befitting the time and place of the movie’s setting (their natural voices being totally different).
They might not be easy to understand, so if you are having trouble, using English subtitles is a good idea to help you follow the conversations.
The movie presents an important period of American history and it has its own unique style. For only 400 yen on Youtube, it’s a steal!
Vocabulary:
●Mythology: a collection of myths or the study of myths.
●Fate: the development of events outside a person’s control, regarded as decided by a supernatural power.
●Retribution: punishment inflicted on someone as revenge for a wrong or criminal act.
●Savagery: being wild or cruel.
●Relentlessly: intensely and without stopping.
●It’s a steal: very cheap.
