ピクサー作品から学ぶ英語
小さな子供から大人が見ても楽しめるピクサー作品。
今回はそんなピクサー作品の台詞から、英語フレーズをピックアップしてみました！
便利な言い回しが見つかれば、ぜひ使ってみましょう!
●the toast of
the toast of = ～の誇り
『レミーのおいしいレストラン』から。
パリのレストランが舞台で、作品に登場する 天才シェフ ”グストー(Gisteau)”についてのセリフです。
“Gisteau’s restaurant is the toast of Paris.”
「グストーのレストランはパリの誇りだ！」と褒めたたえているフレーズです。
●willing to do
willing to do～ ＝ ～する意思がある
『トイストーリー』から。
主人公のウッディに助けられたキャラクターによるセリフです。
”Woody once risked his life for me. I wouldn’t call myself his friend if I weren’t willing to do the same.”
僕に、ウッディへ同じ事（助ける事）をする意思がなければ（自分を）ウッディの友達とは呼べない という意味から 「僕が助けなければ友達とは言えない」となります！

On a scale of ～ = ～段階でいうと・・・
『ベイマックス』から。
主人公（ヒロ）の心と身体をケアするロボット（ベイマックス）はヒロの痛みレベルがどのくらいなのかを測ろうとします。
”On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your pain?”
「１から１０段階でいうと、どれくらいの痛みですか。」

曹 紅梅 (コウ・ソウバイ）
梅田校に新しい講師がやってきました！
中国でも、中国語、韓国語が使われている瀋陽出身。
そのため、中国語と韓国語のネイティブです。
韓国語関連の検定（ハングル検定・TOPIK）対策の対応も可能です。
中国語に関しては、中国語検定などの試験対策や、簡体字・繁体字にも対応OKな経験豊富な講師です。

難波校で教えていた直人先生が今度は梅田校に帰ってきました！
以前と変わらず、TOEIC®L&R、英検®、英会話を担当します。

お薦めの洋書 “March”
March is an autobiographical black and white graphic novel trilogy. It’s a vivid first-hand account of John Lewis’ lifelong struggle for civil and human rights, a modern-age meditation on the distance traveled since the days of Jim Crow and segregation.
Rooted in Lewis’ personal story, it also reflects on the highs and lows of the broader civil rights movement.
It is a national bestseller that book won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award, was selected as a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, was included on Newsweek magazine’s list of “50 Books For Our Times,” and was named Nonfiction Book of the Year by the American Library Association.
Civil Rights Movement:
The civil rights movement was a nonviolent social and political movement and campaigned in the US from 1954 to 1968 to abolish legalized institutional racial segregation, discrimination, and disenfranchisement throughout the country.
今月のリーディングチャレンジ “Meaning of March”
If you search for “March” in a dictionary, be careful. You will usually encounter the meaning of of a verb;
to march:
walk in a military manner with a regular measured tread.
ex: The roman army marched toward Greece.
Next you will discover the meaning of its noun; a march:
an act or instance of marching (walking in a military way).
But of course March is the third month of the year in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars.
It is the second of seven months to have a length of 31 days.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the meteorological beginning of spring occurs on the first day of March.
“March” is named for the Roman god of war, Mars.
This was the time of year to resume military campaigns that had been interrupted by winter.
In the early Roman calendar, March (or Martius) was the first month of the calendar year.
Burger King arrives in Kawanishi
It isn’t a big deal if you live in Osaka city or if you already have a Burger King in your neighborhood, however, for me it’s a very cool thing.
On March 17th a new Burger King will open in my town: Kawanishi !
