Christmasシーズン到来！
12月。そう！待ちに待ったChristmasのシーズンです！！
世界各国で、クリスマスマーケットや独自のクリスマスディナーが登場する毎日がわくわくしちゃう…そんな時期ですよね。
イルミネーションももう登場しており、様々なお店ではクリスマスに向けた動きもあり、気分はもうクリスマスなんて方も…？
世界ではどの様にクリスマスを祝う文化があるのか、またサンタの呼び方があるのか調べてみました！
●クリスマスマーケット（世界各地）
世界中で開催されているクリスマスマーケット‼
日本でも近年盛り上がりをみせ、足を運んだことがある方もおられるのではないでしょうか？
世界中のクリスマスにちなんだ食べ物や、装飾品が売られていたり、本物のサンタクロースが訪れたりとわくわくが止まらないイベントです。
世界各地で開催されていますが、世界で最も大きいと言われているのはドイツ・シュトゥットガルドで開催されているもの。
300以上もの屋台が出展され、「最も美しい屋台」を決めるコンテストも開催されているので、非常に美しいマーケットとしても有名です。
文字通り、町の中心の広場から端までがマーケットとなり、旧宮殿では毎晩コンサートもあり圧巻です。
●サンタクロースの呼び方
プレゼントを運んでくれるサンタクロース。英語だとSanta Clausですが、元々は聖ニコラウスという名前が語源になっていることは聞いたことありますでしょうか？
世界では、サンタクロースは、何と呼ばれているのでしょうか。
フランス語: Pére Noël (ペールノエル）
ドイツ語 : Weihnachtsmann(ヴァイナハツマン)
スペイン語 : Papa Noel（パパノエル）
イタリア語 : Babbo Natale（バッボナターレ）
中国語 : 圣诞老人（シェンダンラオレン）
韓国語 :산타 클로스（サンタクロース）
なんとなく、分かりそう…というものから、全然違う‼となる呼び方まで様々で言語のおもしろさが垣間見えますね。
ちなみに「サンタクロース協会」のあるフィンランドでは、Joulupukki（ヨウルプッキ）。
全然違いますね…
●日本最初のクリスマス
今や定番のイベントとなったクリスマスですが、日本にはいつ頃伝わったのかご存じでしょうか。
所説ありますが、日本で初めてクリスマスが祝われたのは1552年室町時代に、かの有名なフランシスコ・ザビエルによって山口県で行われたのが始まりとされています。
スペイン出身の宣教師フランシスコ・ザビエルが、1549年に鹿児島に到着し、その後2年の滞在をします。
その中で当時の山口の大名、大内氏と会い許可を得て実現に至ったと言われています。
現在、山口県では日本で初めてクリスマスが祝われた日を記念するイベントが12月に開催されています。
話はそれますが、フランシスコ・ザビエル（ Francisco de Xavier ）の呼び方は各国によって少し違います。

スペイン・ガリシア州。
元々言語を学ぶことに興味があり、大学では東アジアの文化や言語について学びました。
大学院では言語を教えたいという思いから、スペイン語教育法学科を専攻。
卒業後、母国では現地に住む外国人にスペイン語を教えていた経験があり、DELEの試験官を務めていたこともあります。

＠難波校 韓国語担当
韓国・ソウル出身。
昔から日本のアニメや漫画に親しんでおり、より日本を知りたいと、大学では日本語学科を専攻。
東京にワーキングホリデーで滞在していた経験もあります。

フランス流クリスマスの過ごし方
クリスマスの祝い方は国や文化によって様々。
今回のワークショップでは、フランスの祝い方をご紹介します。
フランス語を学んでいなくても、フランスのクリスマスの過ごし方を知りたい！ という方であればどなたでもご参加いただけます。
ワークショップはフランス語、英語、日本語で行います。
一般の方もご参加いただけます。ぜひ、ご友人、ご家族を誘ってご参加ください。 フランスの美味しいお菓子や、飲み物を用意してお待ちしています。

今月のリーディングチャレンジ “Discover The Basque Country”
The Basque Country is a rich and unique place. With its green landscape stretching from the Pyrenees to the Atlantic Ocean, this small region (by size only) has lots of surprises for you. Geographically, there is the Northern Basque Country in France, and the Southern one in Spain.
This region has always firmly emphasized its uniqueness with its own language, dance, sports games, clothes and cuisine. Most significantly, the Basque language is still being taught at schools, keeping old traditions alive.
Nowadays, this region is peaceful, but it used to be more violent, with several terrorist attacks in the past. For more than 50 years, between 1959 and 2018, Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (“Basque Homeland and Liberty” or “Basque Country and Freedom”), or ETA for short, carried out attacks in the Basque Country as well as in Spain.
Its main target was to obtain the independence of the region from the Madrilian and Parisian governments.
Today the Basque Country is well known for its gastronomy, with some of the best French or Spanish restaurants established in the region. The most famous dishes are:
●Basque cheese from sheep milk (Ossau-Iraty). Remember to always eat cheese with bread for a better balance of flavors.●Bayonne ham; it is at le
ast 7 months old, and usually even 9 or 10 months, before it is offered for sale.
It’s so good! Unfortunately it comes at a price, especially once imported to Japan.
Just to give you an idea, Amazon offers 200 grams for about 3,000 yen.
●Gâteau Basque: typically filled with black cherry jam or pastry cream.

今月のリーディングチャレンジ2 “Recycling Toys”
Christmas is coming!
Everything is ready, the turkey is in the oven, the tree is decorated, the fireplace is lit, and presents are already wrapped. But this year, let’s try to have a merry Christmas and at the same time protect our planet.
Even during Christmas we can recycle!
Recycling is not only about paper and PET bottles. A large majority of toys are made of hard plastic and other materials, making them almost impossible to recycle.
Hence, it would be wiser to select toys that last longer, or are made of eco-friendly materials.
If we carefully buy toys, we can later recycle them and educate the next generation.
Otherwise, they will end up in a landfill in a few months, and the children will not learn their lesson (that we really have to care about our environment).
For example, instead of the cheapest kitchen set made of plastic, why not buy the one made of wood?
With a bit of imagination, you can even make your own toys; this way they will be unique, and more valuable!
