イースター（復活祭）ってナニ？
少しずつ暖かくなり、春らしくなってきましたね！
この時期になると欧米諸国では「Easter イースター（復活祭）」の装飾やお菓子などで盛り上がります！
欧米ではバレンタインデーが終わると共に徐々にイースターの飾りつけを始めるそうです。
昨今は日本でもうさぎや卵の可愛いモチーフをよく見かけるようになりましたが、皆さんはイースターについて、どのくらいご存知でしょうか？
そもそもイースターとは、十字架にかけられたイエス・キリストが復活したことを祝うお祭りで、キリスト教ではとても重要な祭事です。
イースターは、春分の日以降の最初の満月の次の日曜日と定められており、毎年日付が変わります。
ちなみに今年2023年のイースターは4月9日（日）です。
ではキリストの復活祭に、なぜ「うさぎ」と「卵」なのでしょうか？
●Easter Bunny（イースターバニー）
うさぎは沢山子供を産むので「繁栄」や「豊穣」の象徴です。
バスケットに卵やお菓子、おもちゃ等を入れて運んできてくれると言い伝えがあり、まるでクリスマスのサンタさんのような存在です。
●Easter Egg（イースターエッグ）
卵は「生命」や「誕生」の象徴で、実は卵を飾る風習はイースターの起源よりも前からあるそう。
昔は染料で染めたりしてデザインされた本物のゆで卵を装飾していましたが、最近はチョコレートやプラスチックで作られた卵が多く、中にはおもちゃやお金が入っているものもあるのだとか！
どちらも主に「豊穣」や「生命」など、縁起の良いモチーフなんですね！
英語圏やドイツなどではイースターバニーがイースターエッグを隠すという言い伝えがあり、イースターの朝には子供達が隠されたイースターエッグを探すそうです。
また、アメリカでは卵を探すイベント「エッグハント」はもちろん、「エッグロール」という卵を転がすレースイベントが毎年ホワイトハウスの庭で行われ、このイベントには大統領夫妻も参加するのだとか！
キリスト教のお祭りと言っても、国や宗派によって様々な祝い方があるので気になる方は、それぞれの祝い方やイースターフード等、是非当校講師に聞いてみてくださいね！
What food do you eat in April?
In our modern society we can find anything anytime. Some people don’t even know that there is a season for pineapples (March until July) or apples (Autumn).
Speaking of seasonal foods:
April is all about spring vegetables. It is the peak season for asparagus and artichokes and snap peas will start to appear on the shelves of your supermarket, as well as young carrots and fava beans.
Spring garlic, spring onions, leek and spring radishes are thriving (growing well), as is fennel, which is not popular in Japan, but very healthy.
In Japan?
1. Sakura (cherry blossoms) flavored items such as sweets or snacks from the nearest convenience store
2. Takenoko (bamboo shoots). Even when it’s raw, it’s very good!
3. Nanohana (canola blossoms)
4. Hatsugatsuo (first bonito of the season)
5. Asari/ Hamaguri (Japanese short-neck clam/ hard-shell clam)
6. Strawberries
7. Chirashizushi (A form of sushi consisting of rice topped with a variety of raw fish and vegetables or garnishes.)
Vincent’s special recommendations:
In France, people living in the countryside will go out and look for wild asparagus.
These are very small, so you won’t be able to prepare a whole dish with them, but you can use them to make a great omelet.
In Japan, you might enjoy Tsukushi (field horsetail). They usually grow on river banks.
With my family, the best spot we have found is in front of Itami airport, just at the end of the runaway.
今月のリーディングチャレンジ “What does a film producer do?”
You like cinema and you know what an actor does; but do you know what a producer’s job is?
Even though the name of the producer (also called executive producer, co-producer, associate producer,…) is mentioned in the opening credits (at the beginning of the movie) or in the closing credits (listing of all actors, technicians,
…at the end of the film) many of us don’t really realize what a movie producer is doing or how important he/she is.
Surprisingly, Tom Cruise was overwhelmed by what he didn’t know about the production process when he first started his career at 18.
To make it short, the producer is the person who makes the movie happen.
It includes different tasks like planning, writing, casting, directing, and editing as well as finances, marketing, release and distribution.

As he mentioned, making a film is about craftsmanship involving so many departments (stunts, special effects,…) with the movie producer being the boss.
Sometimes the same person will be the producer and the director (such as James Cameron, who is the producer as well as the director of “Titanic”)
However, most of the time, the producer will not be the director.
For example, Tom Cruise and his partners “offered” “Mission: Impossible” to Brian De Palma.
In that particular case, Tom Cruise was producing and of course acting, but asked Brian De Palma to direct the movie.
Famous producers include:
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel.
Jerry Bruckheimer for Top Gun, The Rock, Armageddon, Black Hawk Down, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the National Treasure franchise.
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm (the company making Star Wars).
Albert S. Ruddy for The Godfather.
Without these great producers such fantastic movies would have never reached us, so next time you watch a movie don’t forget the producer!
